Hobart 53 - Historical Chart
Year: circa 1859
Print Size: 58cm x 85cm
Dated 1 February 1859, this plan of allotments in an area between Park and Argyle Streets in Hobart Town notes that the lots surrounded by Scott, Letitia, Clara and Argyle Streets were withdrawn from the sale advertised for the 9 June 1859. This area is, in fact, the area now surrounded by Lewis, Letitia, Ryde and Argyle Streets, a block housing the North Hobart Oval and the site of the former Blind, Deaf and Dumb Institute, which opened in 1898. The Institute's buildings now form part of the Rydges Hobart Hotel complex.
