Schouten Island (formerly Schouten's Isle) is located 1.6 kilometres south of the Freycinet Peninsula and is part of the Freycinet National Park. The island was named by Able Tasman in 1642 and first landed by Europeans, members of Baudin's expedition in 1803. This unusual chart shows beautifully illustrated profiles of the island including the location of coal beds.
