Frederick Ormiston Henry is seen as the father of modern Strahan. He established himself as a successful storekeeper for the region. His first premise was a tent which was quickly replaced by a timber shack. Ormiston later built an impressive federation house, recognised as one of the finest in Australia. The site for the house, being on the Esplanade adjacent to Bay Street is clearly depicted on this plan.
